Tillamook RV park forced to evacuate because of rushing river water

TILLAMOOK, OR (KPTV) -

A Tillamook RV park was forced to evacuate because of rushing river water Tuesday night.

This all happened at the Wilson River RV Park just off of Highway 6 in Tillamook.  The property is right next to Wilson River, which essentially washed out the park with two feet of rising water.

Park managers tell FOX 12 about 50 different RV’s were parked on property at the time.

First responders rushed to the property to help everyone get out safely, and say fortunately no one has been hurt.

First responders say they had to leave one vacant motor home, one vacant 5th wheeler in the water, because it was too deep for them to get to.

A flood warning was issued for the Wilson River early Tuesday afternoon.

Park managers say they were watching the river closely all day and checking in with weather reports, to prevent something like this from happening.  Then, they say, what seemed like out of nowhere, the river water began rushing into the park.

The park manager then issued an evacuation order, for tenants in harm’s way.

“This is very challenging,” said Park Manager Andy Liddell. “We have EMS on scene, they are scrambling around.  We’ve got people coming from town to help, removing coaches for people who aren’t on site, or don’t have vehicles to tow RV’s. The last time this happened it was in 1996 I think, and there was 22 feet in the park, and it took trailers to the Tillamook.”

Residents tell FOX 12 some people are temporarily relocating to the county fairgrounds, or finding somewhere else to stay for the night, until it is safe to come back.
