Two Vancouver Pee Wee football teams land spot in Pop Warner Super Bowl

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Two Pee Wee football teams, both from Vancouver, land themselves a highly coveted spot in the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Florida.

The challenge now, they say, is pulling together the thousands of dollars they all need to make the trip together.

The East Vancouver Venom Charcoal Youth Football team brought home Pop Warner Pee Wee Division II Regional Champions title over the weekend at Reser Stadium, according to the league.

The East Vancouver Venom Blue Youth Football team brought home the Pop Warner Pee Wee Division III Championship title as well, according to the league.

That’s guaranteed them both a shot in the Super Bowl.

Only two teams in the Greater NW Conference have ever traveled to Florida and this will be the first time for East Vancouver as an association, according to the league. The conference includes teams in Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Idaho, Alaska and Nevada.

“We’ve been working hard all season and we’ve been undefeated,” said Venom Charcoal Quarterback Nikki Scott.

“It’s been a long season, for the families and the kids, and they showed dedication the whole season,” said Coach Nick Scott.  “They’ve worked hard to get to where they are today.”

But Nick Scott says getting to the Super Bowl comes at quite the cost.

“On average each of our players need to come up with 2-grand, that’s a lot,” said Nick Scott.  “You want the best for your kids, they’re qualified and they’ve worked for it.  We just want them to be able to go, because it’s about them having this experience.”

It’s also a difficult thing for the players, who are concerned not everyone on the team can afford to go.

“We need our whole team there, the whole piece of the pie to make it excellent,” said Venom Charcoal Wide Receiver Xavier Owens.

Both teams are now scrambling to find a way to fund that tripe of a lifetime, and are working around the clock to do it.

“It’s a really good opportunity, and for some of us, this is our last year with Pop Warner,” said Owens.

The league says all donations will be split evenly between both teams.
