A Washington woman who has been missing since May of 2010 is now believed to be dead, and law enforcement officials believe her body is in Oregon.

Kayla Croft-Payne was 18 years old when her disappearance was reported in Lewis County, Washington, on May 5, 2010, and at the time was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 105 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Recently the Lewis County Sheriff's Office received new credible information on the case that indicated Croft-Payne died in an RV park in Cowlitz County of an overdose shortly after her disappearance. The case was then transferred to the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives with both agencies conducted multiple searches of remote, heavily-wooded areas in Oregon based on the new information. However, no remains have been located at this time.

Croft-Payne’s parents were notified on the developments in the case.

In 2013, investigators received a tip that Croft-Payne had been killed and buried or thrown down a well at a location in Winlock, Washington. Two days of searching at that time, including draining a 35-foot well, did not reveal any new clues about her disappearance.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the case to contact Det. Cory Robinson or Sgt. Brad Thurman.
