SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Demonstrators were protesting at the state capital after someone posted racist comments on social media about Lewis and Clark College.

Administrators said they became aware of the racist posts on the site called Yik Yak on Tuesday.

Students sent a letter to Governor Kate Brown about campus safety.

Many students were at the capital on Thursday pushing for the Mississippi state flag displayed in Salem to be taken down.

"Make known that because this flag is up, racist incidents like what happened on our campus, the Yik Yak posts after these conversations are just continuing to happen because this flag is still up," said Ryan Seed, a student at LCC.

Students also said they think police should do more about the posts.

Portland Police said the posts do not indicate an immediate threat but they are investigating.
