Portland Winterhawks give back with Sunshine Division

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Winterhawks took some time off the ice this week to help families in need.

They partnered with a local group, Sunshine Division, to make emergency boxes for needy Portland families. On Thursday, the players assembled boxes. They will later sort food and clothing that will be used for a Thanksgiving program.

Fox 12 talked with a few players about volunteering.

"We're from all around over the world, and that's a good thing, but doing stuff like this for these people ... I mean, it means a lot to us too," said Portland Winterhawks player Dominic Turgeon.

And that is not all the Winterhawks have been up to. Earlier this week, they teamed up with Sunshine Division for an event called "Shop with a Hawk." They took 25 students from Mill Creek Elementary on a $100 shopping trip to Fred Meyer.
