PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

City leaders are trying to set the record straight after some national news reports that Portland has banned new gas stations.

Fox News and other sites picked up on a story by The Daily Caller, a blog started by conservative pundit Tucker Carlson.

The headline read "Portland bans new gas stations in the name of global warming."

The story talked about Portland's city council approving a resolution last week to stop the construction of any new facilities to transport or store oil, gasoline, coal, and natural gas. The author claimed it "effectively prevented" any new gas stations from being built.

Mayor Charlie Hales said that's definitely not the case.

Mayor Hales said there's language in the resolution specifically allowing end users like gas stations to get the infrastructure they need within the city.

The resolution just prevents groups from building things like new pipelines to other areas through Portland.
