Cyclist dies after being hit by Lane County deputy in patrol car

EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal crash that involved a Lane County deputy and a cyclist Thursday evening.

OSP said the deputy, Ed LaGrone, was driving his patrol car northbound on Highway 99W just south of Beltine Highway in Eugene when he struck a female bicyclist in the northbound lane.

The bicyclist, Kimbery Wyatt, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSP said there was very little light in the area at the time of the crash and the cyclist was wearing dark clothing. In addition, OSP said there was no rear lighting on the bicycle.

Oregon State Police continues to investigate the crash, with help from the Eugene Police Department and ODOT.
