AMITY, OR (KPTV) -

A flagger in a construction zone is in critical condition after he was hit by an SUV involved in a crash on Highway 99W near Amity.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators said a northbound 1996 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Dallas Chrisman, 23, of Sheridan, sideswiped a Ford Ranger driven by 19-year-old Cody Halverson of McMinnville.

The Ford was stopped for road construction at Milepost 47, according to police.

After the crash, the Chevrolet rolled on its side and struck a highway worker, identified as 56-year-old Aldo Ray John of Marion.

John was working as a flagger in the construction zone.

John was flown to the hospital with serious injuries and was listed in critical condition Friday.

Chrisman was taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. Halverson and his passenger reported no injuries.

Police said everyone in the two vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

The highway was shut down for several hours and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
