Good Samaritan stabbed twice in Longview would do it again 'in a heartbeat'

LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -

A good Samaritan was stabbed twice in the arm in Longview Wednesday evening while trying to help a girl he thought was in distress, and police are still looking for the man who pulled the knife.

Brody Zyzniewski, 18, told Fox 12 he was driving by Longview’s Lake Sacajawea park around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and heard people in the park arguing. He said a man was yelling at a woman, pushing and pulling her, and he stopped to see if he could help.

“You could tell she was really uncomfortable.  She was crying and stuff and every few steps he’d turn around and look at her and scream at her, calling her names,” Zyzniewski explained.  “I just told him, ‘Dude, you should get out of here.  Clearly she doesn’t want you here and it’s probably best for you to go.’”

But that’s when he said the man pulled out a knife.

Zyzniewski told the woman to run, but said the man tried going after so he stepped in his way.  The two got into a fight and Zyzniewski threw a punch, but then:

“[The suspect] was pushing on the knife and I had an arm on his chest and an arm on his arm so I was kind of stopping it, but he moved his hand out of the way and the knife kind of slowly went in for the first stab,” he said.  “Then the second one, he just stabbed me.”

The suspect took off, leaving Zyzniewski alone and bleeding in the dark park.

He got a few stitches at the hospital, but is otherwise okay and already back to work.

Even though he was stabbed, he said he’d do it all again.

“In a heartbeat,” he said.  “My whole life I’ve grown up around guys being disrespectful to girls and it’s just the way my mom raised me…  When I see guys screaming at girls, it’s not alright, it’s not how they’re supposed to be treated.”

Longview Police are following up on several tips, but at this point nobody has been arrested.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned African American man in his late 20’s, over 6’ tall, with short hair and no facial hair.

The woman Zyzniewski was trying to rescue hasn’t come forward yet either.

“I don’t know if that was her boyfriend, I don’t know if she even knew the guy or what,” Zyzniewski added.  “But if it was her boyfriend or somebody that she knew and he doesn’t get caught and she doesn’t turn herself in, who’s there to say that’s not going to happen again?”
