Washington faces statewide shortage of state troopers

OLYMPIA, WA (KPTV) -

The state of Washington is facing a statewide shortage of state troopers.

It is said to be one of the most dangerous jobs in the state of Washington, as well as one of the lowest paying police jobs.

Washington State Patrol says compared to all other police departments and sheriff’s offices in the state, they make the least.

Nine troopers leave every month because they retire, or find a job at another agency.

This means there are currently up to 106 job vacancies.

Washington State Police say 25 troopers just graduated from the academy, and another 55 start at the academy next week.

Police say adding the newly graduated troopers is helpful, but not enough.
