PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Timbers defeated FC Dallas 3-1 at Providence Park Sunday in the first leg of the Western Conference Championship series.

Portland got on the board first with a goal by Liam Ridgewell, and the Timbers kept the lead through the first half.

At the 53 minute mark, the Timbers’ Dairon Asprilla scored a stunning goal from a distance, increasing Portland’s lead to 2-0.

Minutes later, a goal by FC Dallas’ David Texeira cut the Timbers’ lead to 2-1.

But a goal by the Timbers’ Nat Borchers off a corner kick in stoppage time brought the final score to 3-1.

The Timbers will face FC Dallas for the second leg of the series on Nov. 29.
