WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

One man is dead and two people are injured after a head-on car crash in Washington County Sunday night.

Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the crash site at SW Roy Rodgers Road south of SW Bull Mountain Road at around 6:52 p.m.

Officials said 41-year-old Cristopher Michels of Lafayette was traveling north when he crossed over the center line and hit oncoming driver Maria Cervantes-Acero, 66, of Newberg.

Deputies added that Cervantes-Acero’s grandson David Gonzales-Cervantes, 19, was also in the passenger seat.

Officials pronounced Michels dead at the scene. Both Cervantes-Acero and her grandson were taken to the hospital, according to police reports.

They are both in serious condition.

Investigators are not sure what caused Michels to cross over into oncoming traffic. They said there were no signs of impairment or that Michels attempted to avoid the collision.

The case is still under investigation.
