PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Three families were without homes after a fire destroyed three apartment units on Friday night.

Now local businesses, neighbors and help organizations are rallying to help those families.

Firefighters arrived around 6:30 p.m. at Lents Town Center on SE 92nd Avenue to find the fire burning in-between the floors and walls.

Officials said high winds made it hard to extinguish but crews were able to put out most of the fire within an hour.

Firefighters said of the residents were able to get out safely.

Now the families are receiving help from the Red Cross and local neighbors, as well as Eagle Eye Tavern, Zoiglhaus Brewpub and Eastport Walmart.

The chair of the Lents Neighborhood Association, Jesse Cornett, said the amount of support shown towards the families is heartwarming.

The families are now searching for new homes.
