PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The maker of the 'Coolest Cooler,' which broke records on crowdfunding site Kickstarter last year, is apologizing for long delays in getting the product to customers.

Backers of the product, which includes a blender, Bluetooth speakers and other extras, were promised coolers early this year.

But the delivery date has repeatedly been pushed back, angering those who paid upfront for the product.

In a statement on the Coolest website Monday, creator Ryan Grepper said the company has dealt with unprecedented demand and production issues.

"When you do a Kickstarter campaign, you plan for success and we did a great deal of research before launching. However, we are a small business with a small team and have been challenged by unforeseen logistical issues that created this delay. These issues included the overwhelming demand for our product, compounded by technological challenges with our order management system and a strike at the battery motor manufacturer. We are working quickly to resolve these issues and have already begun shipping product as we’re able."

Many customers are also upset that the cooler is available for sale on Amazon.com while they still await their orders.

Grepper said that was an unintended result of an obligation to deliver the product to Amazon prior to problems with production.
