SEATTLE (KPTV) -

The Washington teen who was known as the "Barefoot Bandit" has signed a deal to send his story to the big screen.

Colton Harris-Moore made national headlines seven years ago when he escaped from a juvenile halfway house in Renton and committed a string of crimes, including the theft of three small airplanes which he crash landed.

The then 16-year-old, who sometimes didn't wear shoes during his crimes, also hijacked a boat in the Bahamas and burglarized more than 100 homes.

Twentieth Century Fox paid nearly a million dollars of Harris-Moore's restitution in exchange for the rights to his story.

A book and documentary film of his exploits have already been released.

Harris-Moore is in prison until 2018
