PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Several thousand customers were without power Tuesday morning after a car crashed into a power pole in southeast Portland.

The crash occurred around 5 a.m. at Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 124th Avenue.

Portland police said a single vehicle crashed into the power pole, causing a loss of power to nearby residents.

As of 6:30 a.m., Portland General Electric was reporting more than 7,600 customers without power in Multnomah County. PGE's website attributed about 4,000 of those to the car crash. By 7 a.m., the lights were back on for the majority of those customers.

Police said the driver of the car was injured in the crash, but officers didn't have an update on that person's condition.

Police said Southeast 124th Avenue was closed in both directions and would likely remain closed for several hours.
