A wanted sex offender accused of cutting off his monitoring bracelet again is now back in custody.

Police put out an alert for Dennis John Davis on Monday.

Officer described him as a "dangerous offender" with an extensive criminal history that includes violent sexual crimes.

According to a Multnomah County spokesman, Davis was located near Northwest 4th and Davis Street at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A witness called police after seeing Davis and recognizing him from news reports.

Authorities said he let the battery die on his monitor and then cut it off in Forest Park.

Investigators said this is his third parole violation since being released from prison in June.

Police said he first cut off his monitoring bracelet just days after being released. Police asked for the public's help tracking him down at that time, and he eventually turned himself in to his parole officer.
