LANE COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Eugene man on charges of manslaughter after he allegedly crashed his car into power pole and fled the scene, leaving one passenger dead inside the car.

Police said they received a complaint of a single vehicle crash on Washburn Lane just west of Junction City around 1:06 a.m. Thursday morning.

Officials said they later arrived to find passenger William T. Barnett, 29, of Junction City dead at the scene.

The driver, 41-year-old Lee W. Volgardsen, fled the scene on foot before police arrived and was later found at his home, according to police reports.

Volgardsen was arrested and charged with second degree manslaughter.

Police are still investigating the incident but they say alcohol may have been a factor.
