COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

Search and rescue crews found a pair of lost hikers who spent the night on a trail in the Columbia River Gorge.

The hikers were "very cold," but otherwise in good condition, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies first responded to an area near the Bonneville Dam at 8:55 a.m. Friday.

A family member reported talking to one of the lost hikers by phone, but there was no further phone contact.

A deputy located the hikers' vehicle at the Tooth Rock Trailhead.

The Green Hornets trail rescue team searched the trails in the area where the vehicle was located and found the hikers at around 12:15 p.m. Friday near Munra Point.

"The Green Hornets consist of an elite group of sworn law enforcement personnel who are physically fit endurance athletes experienced with hiking and trail running. The goal of the team is to reduce response times and perform a hasty search in and around target areas," according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

The hikers were identified as Igor Vyravschikov, 22, and Roman Korchaki, 21, both from Gresham.

They told deputies they were taking a shortcut on the trail and became lost. As they attempted to find their way back, they kept going lower on the hill and couldn't locate the original trail before it got dark.

They had no flashlight and were not prepared or dressed to stay overnight on the trail, according to deputies. They used a lighter to make a small bonfire to stay warm overnight.
