PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland group was honored Thanksgiving night for their dedication to man's best friend.

The group Fences for Fido accepted the Sam Simon award on Fox’s All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration.

The special celebrated America’s rescue dogs and encouraged adoption.

Every Saturday morning  the group of volunteers from Fences for Fido build a fenced-in area for dogs who spend their lives chained up outside, putting up 1,300 of them so far.

The group was also active in spearheading legislation in 2013 banning animals from being chained up outside long-term.
