Family fun fills downtown Portland streets during annual Macy's Parade

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

One day removed from Thanksgiving, downtown Portland was bustling with the Christmas spirit.

Families flooded the streets for the annual Macy's Holiday Parade. The Portland parade featured inflatable floats, hundreds of costumed characters, marching bands from high schools and middle schools and community drill teams.

"It's really fun, especially when you experience it through the eyes of the little ones," said Allie Sarantals. "It makes you more excited about the holidays."

Some people said their annual day-after-Thanksgiving tradition is to go to the parade and then hit the downtown stores for Black Friday bargains.

"We always go to the parade and then see what we can get on the way back," said Birdie Kirk.

The hour-long parade wrapped up with Santa guiding his sleigh into Macy's, where Santaland opened on Friday.
