Smoke alarms help SE Portland family escape fire

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Fire crews responded to a house fire in southeast Portland Friday, according to Portland Fire and Rescue.

The fire happened just after 2 p.m. Friday afternoon on Southeast 103rd Avenue near Southeast Francis Street.

The family inside the home was alerted to the fire in the garage by smoke alarms in the home.

Fire crews said by the time they arrived, the fire had spread to the second floor of the home and the attic.

During the fire, a power line burned through and dropped to the ground.

The 2 adults, and 3 children inside the home were able to evacuate safely.

Two of the family’s cats also made it out, though one cat is still missing.

Damage is estimated at more than $100,000, according to Portland Fire and Rescue.

Crews continue to investigate what started the fire.
