PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Dozens of people gathered at the Art Institute of Portland for Special Effects Day Saturday.

The event was hosted by I-Urban Teen, a group that works to inspire young men of color to become tomorrow’s technology leaders.

The Special Effects Day was a chance for them to learn about media visual effects for both television and movies.

One of the speakers, Peter Kuran, talked about his experience as a teenager working on the set of the original "Star Wars" movie.

Kuran also wore the famous C3PO suit for some of the shots used in the movie.

The co-owner of Hive FX was also in attendance, they create the special effects for Portland based show “Grimm.”
