Rescue teams have rescued one mountain climber and located the body of another Monday morning after they became trapped on Mt. Jefferson.

Officials said at least 15 rescue climbers from the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Team were deployed to the scene early Monday after one climber, 32-year-old Thomas Fountain, fell into a crevasse on the Jefferson Park Glacier sometime Sunday.

Deputies said Fountain died as a result of his fall.

The other climber has been identified as his wife, 29-year-old Alison Fountain.

Alison Fountain was able to communicate with rescue crews via text message Sunday to ask for help, according to police reports.

Searchers said they knew the location of the climbers, but rugged terrain made the rescue effort very difficult. It took the rescuers several hours to reach the climbers.

Crews were able to rescue Alison Fountain, who was reported to be in good condition. Due to severe weather conditions, crews were unable to recover Thomas Fountain's body Monday. Searchers planned to reassess on Tuesday and determine when Thomas Fountain's body could be recovered from the mountain.

The Fountain family released a statement Monday night thanking everyone involved in the rescue process.

Tommy was in love. He loved life, he loved his wife and daughter, and he loved the mountains. He proposed to Alison on Mt. Kilimanjaro, they were married & honeymooned on Mt. Rainier, and spent any free time they had tackling their latest peak. We will miss his passion and spirit immensely, but are comforted in knowing that he died living life to the fullest. He died doing something he loved with someone he loved, and we can honestly say there's no other way he'd want to go.
