JEFFERSON, OR (KPTV) -

A man displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded cash from a tobacco store worker, but the clerk refused to give in and the suspect left the store in frustration.

The whole incident was caught on camera and police hope someone will recognize the suspect from the surveillance images and video.

Deputies responded to You Name It on North Second Street in Jefferson at 9:20 p.m. Nov. 20 on reports of an attempted robbery.

Surveillance video shows the man enter the store wearing a hood. At one point, the suspect reaches over the counter but the worker pushes him away and points toward the door.

The suspect eventually leaves, but not before first pushing over a display box on the counter.

The suspect is described as a white man, 5'8" to 5'9" and possibly in his late 30s or early 40s.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call the non-emergency number at 503-588-5032. Callers can remain anonymous.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said in situations like this, the best course of action is to cooperate with the suspect and not to provoke them.
