Family's car stolen with Chihuahua named Tiny inside: 'We just want the dog'

Posted: Updated:

A Salem family's car was stolen while they were eating dinner, but they're more concerned about what was inside the car at the time.

The thief not only stole their 1993 Honda Accord, but also their dog named Tiny.

The family was eating at McDonald's on Lancaster Drive Northeast and Devonshire Avenue Northeast at around 7 p.m. Monday.

They left Tiny the Chihuahua in the car. At one point they went out to check on the dog, but minutes later the car was gone.

"I just thought, "oh my gosh my baby. She's gone,'" said owner Meghan Fleming. "I love that dog. You know we don't really care about the car, we just want the dog. I can't believe this happened. It was so fast."

The family has been putting up fliers around Salem and posting about Tiny and the car on Craigslist and Facebook.

They said not knowing what happened, whether the thief ditched the dog, plans to sell it or if Tiny managed to run away, is making things even more agonizing.

The car is green with a black hood. It is also lowered. Tiny was wearing a black and white coat and a pink sweater.

Anyone who sees the car or the dog is asked to contact Salem police.
