Portland Timbers return to practice field to gear up for MLS Cup

Posted: Updated:

After fans welcomed home the Portland Timbers on Monday, it's time for the MLS Western Conference champs to get back to work.

After collecting their first trophy in 40 years of the club, in all eras, PTFC has one more piece of hardware left to go.

The Timbers returned to the training pitch in Beaverton on Tuesday morning.

Preseason began in January, the season ender is in December. There will be virtually no off-season, but the boys will be just fine with that as the clock continues to tick towards Sunday's 1 p.m. Pacific kickoff, in Columbus, Ohio, for the one-match, winner takes all, MLS Cup Final.

"You know, a lot of people want to talk about how it's on the road, it's in Columbus, and we've had some of our best games on the road so we're pretty confident in that. But at the same time we know how talented that group is that we are going to be playing against, so it should be an entertaining game," said Jack Jewsbury.

A special season for players like Jack Jewsbury who has been on the roster in all five years of this Major League Soccer era.

The Timbers have met the Columbus Crew already once this season, winning 2-1 in Columbus back in September.

Sunday's 1 p.m. kickoff from Ohio will be broadcast on ESPN.
