Suspect wanted in downtown Vancouver homicide identified as Ailiana Siufanua,18.
VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
A Vancouver homicide suspect died in a car crash in California, according to Vancouver Police Department.
Vancouver Police said on Nov. 30 they confirmed the identity of the suspect in the homicide of Bentley Brookes as Ailiana Siufanua, 18, of Des Moines, WA.
On Dec. 1, a man identified as Thomas Leae and Siufanua were involved in a crash on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, California.
Vancouver Police said California Highway Patrol was attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the car. Leae was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5 before crashing into a tree, seriously injuring himself and killing the female passenger, who was found dead at the scene.
On Tuesday, Vancouver detectives said they were awaiting official confirmation from the Yolo County Coroner's Office that the woman killed in the crash was Siufanua. Officers said they received that confirmation Wednesday.
The Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate and police said it is not yet known if the driver of the car in the California crash was involved in the Vancouver homicide case.
