PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland renter who thought he was out of options and headed out of town has found new hope.

John Morales, who was recently given a notice of eviction, had been looking for a ride share back to his home state of New Orleans.  He had been unable to find a new place to live he could afford, but a woman who saw his story on FOX 12 thought she might be able to help.

Jan Clutter contacted Morales, and posted on the social media site nextdoor.com, explaining his situation.  Kelly Ripley Feller, who happened to be in the process of moving out of her Alberta town home, decided she should offer her assistance.

“The nagging feeling just wouldn’t leave, that I felt like I had to do something to help and I might be in a position to do that,” said Ripley Feller.

Ripley Feller offered Morales a place to stay in her three bedroom home, until he got back on his feet.  She planned to rent the town home out after she moved into a new place in NE Portland, and suggested Morales could eventually find roommates and rent from her.

“I’m doing great now.  I actually have a place to stay.  I have no worries about the close future,” said Morales. “Now I have something to look forward to and work towards.”

Morales continues to look for work, and hopes to be able to work something out with Ripley Feller long-term.

Morales said he is grateful for Clutter’s help and Ripley Feller’s kindness.
