HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A man who claimed to be interested in buying a .38 caliber Ruger revolver at a Fred Meyer store in Hillsboro ran out of the store with the gun and was later arrested, according to police.

Police responded to the store at 22075 N.W. Imbrie Drive at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.

A clerk was showing the man the gun when the suspect took off with it, according to police.

Officers searched the area, but did not locate the suspect. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, who was possibly with another man, and his car.

A car matching the description was spotted by police at 185th and TV Highway at 9:40 p.m.

An officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the gun stolen from Fred Meyer. Jesus Rivera-Hernandez, 32, of Hillsboro, was arrested.

Police said a small amount of meth was also found in the car.

Rivera-Hernandez is facing charges of first-degree theft and possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine.

Police said the investigation is continuing and it is not yet known if a second suspect was involved.
