Teen arrested on arson charges in fires at Madison HS

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Fire and Rescue Arson Squad and Portland Police Bureau have arrested a 15-year-old boy on charges tied to a series of fires at Madison High School.

The suspect is believed to be connected to four fires at the school, which were all set in November in bathrooms and a storage closet at the school.

In all, the fires caused an estimated $50,000 in damages, an amount that was limited according to the school by the sprinkler and smoke alarm systems.

While the school had to be evacuated during the fires, there were no injuries. The enrollment at Madison is more than 1,100 students.

The teen is facing two counts of first degree arson, three counts of disorderly conduct and counts of reckless burning and tampering with a witness.
