SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Police have identified the 18-year-old attempted carjacking suspect accused of leading police on a chase before crashing into a truck while carrying heroin and a handgun.

Chantz Angelino Hernandez Turner of Salem is facing numerous charges including robbery, kidnapping, attempt to elude, felony hit and run, possession of heroin, unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

Police said they tried to stop his Ford Explorer heading north on Interstate 5 near Milepost 250 on Wednesday afternoon. The pursuit was canceled when the driver began to drive recklessly.

A short time later, investigators said Hernandez Turner crashed into a pickup on the Mission Street exit, got out of his car, forced his way into a woman's Volkswagen stopped at the scene and attempted to drive off.

Police said good Samaritans, including Zubin Rastegar, slowed him down and pulled him out of the car. Rastegar told FOX 12 the suspect initially tried to convince police that Rastegar was the suspect.

Police credited Rastegar's actions with helping lead to the arrest of Hernandez Turner.

Rastegar also had a camera rolling on his dashboard that captured the whole incident.

Police said the woman in the Volkswagen was taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

Hernandez Turner was armed with a handgun and also carrying heroin, according to police.
