SCAPPOOSE, OR (KPTV) -

Scappoose Fire District personnel responded to a structure fire on Dike Road just before 6 a.m. Friday morning.

When fire crews arrived, they found a houseboat with smoke smoldering on the outside walls and deck area.

Officials said the two people living in the home were woken up by smoke detectors.

They found no fire inside the home, but when they looked outside they saw the glow of fire on their outside deck.

The two people living in the home used a garden hose to put out most of the fire.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to area where it began, which includes the exterior wall of the home.

According to the Scappoose Rural Fire District, there was smoke damage inside the home, but the two residents are still able to live there.

Crews estimated that the fire caused $30,000 worth of damage.

A full investigation into the fire has not been conducted yet.
