Hermiston man killed in Umatilla County crash

UMATILLA COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A Hermiston man was killed in crash on Highway 207 in Umatilla County.

Oregon State Police said Richard Dean Cox, 24, of Hermiston died after being hit by a commercial truck and trailer at around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary information indicates Cox pulled into a driveway on Highway 207 and then backed up to change directions.

Troopers said as he backed out onto the highway, his car was hit on the driver’s side by the truck.

Cox was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The passenger in Cox’s car left the scene before police could arrive, but was later interviewed at the hospital while seeking medical attention.

Highway 207 was closed for more than 2 hours while crews removed the vehicles.
