Timbers fans head to Ohio for MLS Cup final

COLUMBUS, OH (KPTV) -

Portland Timbers fans traveled to Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio where the team will battle Columbus Crew for the MLS Cup Sunday.

An Alaska Airlines plane was decked out in green for the fan charter, bound for Columbus and the MLS Cup. The Timbers Army led the way in songs and cheers throughout the four-hour flight.

But one man brought it all together. Timber Jim served as the team's mascot on and off for 30 years, long before their MLS fame. This is his dream come true.

"I love these people. I love this town. I love this team," he said. "We deserve it. The players deserve it."

As the sun set in Ohio, the band of Portland fans arrived with adrenaline pumping.

"I am so pumped," said fan Matt Brubaker. "I found out Thursday morning I was coming and I didn't sleep a wink last night."

But now, it's time to get down to business. The game starts at 1 p.m. Pacific Time.
