Portland celebrates Hanukkah with annual menorah lighting

Posted: Updated:

Hanukkah began this past Sunday at sunset and Portland celebrated the beginning of the holiday with the annual menorah lighting.

The menorah, located at Director Park, is 12 feet tall.

Another menorah was added this year, and this one is made entirely of ice.

Local ice sculptors gathered at the park to carve the beautiful candelabrum.

Many residents attended the event, hoping to send a positive message in light of recent events.

This year also honors Hakhel, the celebration of Jewish unity and learning.

Hakhel is celebrated once every seven years.
