BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Overflowing creeks shut down Highway 217 at Allen Boulevard in Beaverton on Monday as the metro area was hit with heavy rainfall.

All lanes were closed at around 4 p.m. Monday due to water pooling and flooding the roadway. At 7:40 p.m. the southbound shoulder of Hwy 217 was reopened, but all other lanes were closed.

Northbound and southbound traffic was diverted onto Allen Boulevard to bypass the closure, however there were significant delays during the evening commute Monday.

The Oregon Department of Transportation reported Highway 217 would remain closed in that area until the nearby creeks that overflowed recede back to manageable levels.

Travelers were advised to avoid the area or expect significant delays. There was no time estimate available Monday night about when all lanes might reopen.

Updates will be provided on all area road closures at tripcheck.org.
