PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Bureau of Environmental Services said a malfunctioning valve caused a sewage release on Monday from the Inverness Pump Station at 12008 NE Inverness Drive.

Maintenance crews discovered the issue around 12:44 p.m. and shut down the pump station to stop the release and make repairs.

Some sewage spilled onto NE Inverness Drive just west of NE 122nd Ave. and flowed into the north arm of the upper Columbia Slough.

Bureau of Environmental Services are asking people to avoid contact with the slough in that area through Tuesday afternoon.
