PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A second rain and wind storm was moving over Oregon and Washington Tuesday afternoon, bringing with it potential for flooding and other property damage for the second day in a row.

Heavy rainfall Monday caused widespread problems throughout the region and forecasters said more rain was on the way Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

That prompted some school districts, including Forest Grove and Gaston, to cancel afternoon and evening activities Tuesday. The Oregon Zoo was closed all day Monday and Tuesday because of the weather.

ODOT reported that numerous state highways, mainly those in Clatsop, Tillamook, Marion, Yamhill, and Lincoln counties have areas of high water. Officials warn against driving through standing water.

On Highway 22 in Yamhill County, a semi-truck fell into a sinkhole that took out a section of the highway near Dolph Junction.

In addition to rainfall, forecasters expect gusty winds in the area, which combined with already soggy ground, could lead to downed trees and power lines.

Portland transportation officials said storm-related closures will cause delays for all modes of transportation during rush hour commutes, and residents should avoid unnecessary travel during those times.

Tuesday afternoon Amtrak officials closed lines running between Portland and Vancouver due to high water on tracks running north of Union Station in Portland.

ODOT is asking travelers to check road conditions before heading out Tuesday evening.
