Police have identified an elderly woman that was killed after the car she was in went through a flooded road in Clatskanie.

The incident occurred at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday on Lost Creek Road near Highway 30.  Officials said 82-year-old Richard A. Forrest drove his car past a "road closed" sign and the vehicle got swept away into a 200-foot long section of water that was at least 10 feet deep.

Police said 72-year-old Penny Forrest was in the passenger seat.

Two Clatskanie PUD linemen swam out to the car and rescued Richard Forrest, who was standing on top of the car. By the time water rescue crews arrived on scene, the car was submerged. It was recovered about two hours later with the body of Penny Forrest inside.

Charges are not likely to be filed against Richard Forrest.
