PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A natural gas leak led to the closure of Highway 30 at the St. Johns Bridge on Thursday.

Portland Fire & Rescue reported the closure at around 11:30 a.m.

By 12:45 p.m., two westbound lanes were open, however eastbound traffic was still being diverted onto Northwest Bridge Avenue. By 2:10 p.m., one eastbound lane was open.

All lanes had reopened by 6 p.m.

Traffic on Highway 30 was already backed up prior to the gas leak due to drivers using it as a detour around the mudslide that shut down northbound Interstate 5 in Woodland.

Columbia County officials described Highway 30 as experiencing "dangerous traffic congestion" and advised drivers not to use that route.
