SWEET HOME, OR (KPTV) -

A missing mushroom picker was found safe after spending the night in the woods with only a flashlight and a lighter.

A friend called 911 at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to report 38-year-old Jason Lee Key of Lebanon had not been seen since 4 p.m. in the heavily wooded area of the Whitcomb Creek 700 line off Quartzville Road, about nine and a half miles northeast of Highway 20 in Sweet Home.

The caller told deputies they had five people searching for Key, but they were unable to find him. Key did not have a cell phone with him.

Linn County Search and Rescue was activated and volunteers began trying to locate Key at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office said Key was located Thursday afternoon about a half mile from where he was last seen.

Deputies said he traveled around 400 feet in elevation down very rough terrain within the Whitcomb Creek Drainage area.

Deputies said it did not appear he would need medical attention Thursday.

A total of 45 search and rescue members from multiple agencies were involved in the operation.
