CANNON BEACH, OR (KPTV) -

A large wave slammed into a hotel on the Oregon Coast and caused damage to multiple rooms.

Fortunately, those rooms at the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach were unoccupied at the time.

A hotel spokesman said the wave hit one of the resort's four buildings Friday. A number of rooms are now undergoing repairs and will not be available for at least a few weeks.

The hotel is sold out for the weekend, so staff is shuffling things around to make sure enough rooms are available to meet all the reservations.

The hotel spokesman said it was a unique situation that led to Friday's incident, with the combination of the surge and height of the wave at the peak of high tide, coupled with conditions that included the absence of traditionally southern winds that typically cap waves to the north.

There was no immediate cost estimate on the damage.
