Ski resorts hope earlier opening can bring in business

Mt. Hood, OR (KPTV) -

Snow at Mount Hood Meadows is finally enough to officially open for the season.

This year's opening comes a week and a half earlier than last season’s opening, and people are stoked, to say the least.

A foot and a half of snow fell at Mount Hood Meadows since Wednesday.

Skiers and snowboards packed the slopes, taking advantage of the fresh powder.

Paul Paly was visiting Oregon from Jacksonville, Florida and couldn't resist a trip to the mountain.

“I’m enjoying real snow, because we never have snow,” he said. “We have too many crocodiles and the snow is not real, only made from cotton.”

Oregonians know last season was less than ideal.

Meadows saw their second worst snowpack in 21 years, and didn't open regular operations until December 22.

Skiers and snowboarder said this earlier opening bodes well, a welcome thought for ski resorts looking to come back from a down year.
