CANNON BEACH, OR (KPTV) -

Crews from the Seaside Aquarium are working to help a sea turtle washed ashore Monday morning on Cannon Beach.

The turtle, measuring 24 inches long and weighing 50 pounds, was recovered alive and taken to the aquarium to be reheated.

“it looks like to be an olive ridley sea turtle. We will take a closer look when we get back to the aquarium,” Tiffany Boothe of the Seaside Aquarium said. “We are not really surprised to have a sea turtle on the beach right now. The conditions out there in the ocean are conducive to bringing these guys on shore.”

If crews can save the animal, they plan to have it flown to Southern California for further treatment and release.

Officials from the Seaside Aquarium said the storms and high surf likely caused the turtle to become beached and hypothermic.
