Woodburn’s new police chief Jim Ferraris was sworn in Monday night in front of his friends, family and former colleagues.

Chief Ferraris comes to Woodburn from a deputy chief position in Salem, bringing with him nearly 28 years of experience.

Woodburn City Administrator, Scott Derickson spoke about his excitement for Chief Ferraris.

“Jim not only has a vast amount of experience, but he will bring a fresh perspective to our police department and to Woodburn,” said Derickson.

"I am looking forward to serving the people of Woodburn and I am really excited about this opportunity," Chief Ferraris said.

"I will begin getting to know as much as I can in the coming weeks and months as I acclimate myself to Woodburn.”

Chief Ferraris is replacing Scott Russell, who is retiring after 13 years as Woodburn’s police chief and a 28-year career.
