PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Two members of a local roofing company can add hero to their resumes after they pulled a man out of a burning home in north Portland.

According to fire crews, the house on north Central Street caught on fire around 11:30 this morning.

Everyone who lives there is safe, in part because of the two men who came to help.

To hear Steven Kenney and Jeff Kruggel tell it, what they did was no big deal. Most people would probably think otherwise.

Even with the smoke pouring out of the chimney and windows filling the home, Steven and Jeff ran in without hesitation.

“Oh it was bad, all I could see was his feet… so we crawled in there and I grabbed him, pulled him on the floor and drug him out through the front door,” said Kruggel.

Ernest Brown, the man rescued from the home, is doing okay, and only has minor injuries.

Fire crews showed up right after and searched the basement, dealing with extensive clutter to make sure no one else was inside.

They put out the fire, and mopped up hot spots while Steven and Jeff went back to work.

They work for a company called complete roofing and construction, and you could say there is truth in the advertising.
