PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Officers from the Portland Police Bureau’s East Division are investigating a report of a deadly shooting near Southeast 112th Avenue and Division Street Wednesday afternoon.

Officers and emergency responders arrived on the scene just after 2:30 p.m., finding a man who suffered the deadly gunshot wound.

Investigators said that the initial information shows the suspect or suspects have fled the area in a car.

According to Fox 12’s Laura Rillos, investigators were focusing on area near the Plaid Pantry store at the intersection.

According to Sgt. Pete Simpson with the PPB, the victim in the shooting was in his early 20s. Simpson also said officers believed the shooting happened on a walkway leading out of a parking lot near the intersection, and that they were looking for a larger white SUV that was last seen heading south on Southeast 112th Avenue.

Christina Goodall, a resident of the neighborhood, said she and others were not surprised by the violence in the area, saying it is becoming more common.

"I just heard gunshots but I didn’t think they were real because it sounded like popping, like loud pops," she said. "But I figured they kind of were real because of where I live."

Investigators are reviewing security footage from the Plaid Pantry and a gas station across from the shooting scene for any information. They are asking anyone with home security system in the area to check for suspicious behavior this afternoon that may be tied to the shooting.

The intersection is closed in all directions and will stay closed for hours for the investigation.

The PPB is encouraging drivers to use Powell Boulevard or Southeast Stark Street as an alternate route to Division.
