A 16-year-old boy who shot three people at a crowded Last Thursday event in northeast Portland pleaded guilty in court Wednesday.

Turon Walker Jr. was arrested after the shooting the evening of May 28.

Two 15-year-old boys and a 25-year-old woman were shot. They survived their injuries.

Investigators said the victims were not the intended targets. According to court documents, Walker told detectives he fired the gun at someone he believed was "eyeing him."

Walker said he lost control of the gun while firing it, a probable cause affidavit states. Witnesses reported seeing him throw a black handgun into the air.

Witnesses also helped direct officers in the area to Walker and the gun.

Court documents state Walker asked officers in the patrol car, "Did I actually hit someone?"

After hearing a radio transmission about the victims being taken to the hospital, he said, "Please tell me I didn't hurt nobody," according to court documents.

Court documents state Walker had been expelled from three schools over the last two years, has a history of running away, as well as an "impulsivity disorder," and is surrounded by gang-affiliated people from his family and friends.

He wrote apology letters to the three victims soon after his arrest, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Walker pleaded guilty Wednesday to the charges of first-degree assault with a firearm, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. The assault charges are Measure 11 offenses.

He initially faced additional charges including attempted murder before reaching a plea agreement.

His sentencing is set for Jan. 7.

Last Thursday is a monthly festival on Northeast Alberta Street that features artists, musicians, performers and vendors.
