Star Wars fans line up early for latest movie

Posted: Updated:

The wait is over for Star Wars fans.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens premieres Thursday night starting at 7:00 at theaters around the metro.

Many fans were already waiting earlier in the day at the theater near the Lloyd Center, spending a long day of sitting out in the cold.

Jake Willis came out at 6:30 a.m. and was the first fan in line.

“There is obviously a lot of people coming out. It is a huge movie probably biggest movie of the year probably of all time, I guess,” he said. ”I'm not expecting it to be the best movie ever, but I’m expecting a fun movie.

For many fans, the new movie was a connection back to their childhood.

“For me this is the franchise, I grew up with this,” fan Joseph Lafournaise said. “When I was 3 was when I started watching Star Wars on VHS, it's the series I bonded with my dad over. It's my first franchise that I grabbed ahold of and didn't let go.”

Lafournaise actually brought out Star Wars comics to read before the movie.

The movie is expected to break numerous box office records, with online ticket seller Fandango saying pre-sale ticket sales shattered previous marks. The new film is expected to make over $200 million in its first weekend alone.
